The procedure is a fairly simple. In fact, it's as simple as 1, 2, 3!
- Using any FTP program capable of uploading files (e.g. WS_FTP, ncftp, Fetch >etc...), you should first open a connection to "userpages.aug.com".
- When asked for a username and password, enter the same Auglink username and password information that you use for your email and dialup login. The username part should be ONLY the bare username, not a full email address (just "name", not "name@aug.com").
- After successfully logging in, you can go ahead and start uploading your HTML pages, images, etc. There's no need to change directories first or create any new ones... files sent automatically go to the right place.
Within a few minutes, the new site should be available at a URL of the form
http://userpages.aug.com/username/
That will happen a maximum of 12 minutes after your first successful FTP login to the userpages host, but usually sooner. After your first upload session, subsequent additions/revisions will take effect immediately, with no further delays.
The HTML document you want to use as a main homepage should be named either "index.html" or "index.htm". If this is missing, visitors to the base URL will see just a listing of other files that were sent, generated internally by the web server. |
